  • Becoming Theo: A Story About Faith, Character, Confidence and Legacy

Every boy is on a journey.

As he grows, he is learning from the people around him, the experiences he has, the choices he makes and the values he sees modelled.

The question is not whether boys are being shaped.

    The question is:

What are they being shaped into?

That is the heart behind Becoming Theo.

    More Than Just a Story

Becoming Theo is an invitation to think about what it means for a boy to grow into the man he is called to become.

It explores the importance of the foundations that help shape a young person’s life โ€” including faith, character, confidence, purpose and the influence of positive role models.

For parents, it can provide an opportunity to start meaningful conversations.

For churches and leaders, it can encourage discussion about how we support the next generation.

And for those who work with boys, it highlights the importance of creating environments where young people can learn, belong and grow.

    Faith

Faith is not simply something we talk about on Sundays.

It can become part of the way children understand themselves, their relationships, their choices and the world around them.

Helping boys develop a foundation of faith gives them something to build on as they face new experiences and challenges throughout life.

    Character

    Character is developed over time.

Through everyday decisions, challenges, responsibilities and relationships, boys learn what integrity, courage, respect and responsibility look like.

The people around them have an important role to play in modelling these qualities and encouraging them when things are difficult.

    Confidence

Confidence is not about believing you can do everything.

Healthy confidence grows when boys are given opportunities to try, fail, learn, try again and discover what they are capable of.

    They need encouragement.

They need people who believe in them.

And they need environments where they can develop skills and confidence alongside others.

    Purpose

As boys grow, they begin to ask bigger questions about who they are and where they fit.

Helping them understand that their lives have purpose can shape the way they see themselves and the way they approach the future.

Faith, character and confidence all contribute to that journey.

    The Importance of Role Models

One of the strongest messages behind Becoming Theo is the importance of the people who speak into a boy’s life.

    Parents matter.

    Fathers matter.

    Grandparents matter.

    Church leaders matter.

    Mentors matter.

    Youth leaders matter.

    Positive male role models matter.

Boys need to see examples of the kind of men they can become.

They need people who will encourage them, challenge them, listen to them and point them towards truth.

    Building Something That Lasts

The experiences boys have during childhood can stay with them for life.

    A conversation.

    A mentor.

    A place where they belonged.

    A challenge they overcame.

A person who believed in them.

    A lesson about faith.

These moments can become part of the story they carry into adulthood.

That is why investing in boys today matters.

We are not simply raising children.

We are helping shape the next generation.

A Partnership for the Next Generation

Becoming Theo is being shared as part of the partnership between Faith Parent and Boysโ€™ Brigade Queensland.

Both organisations recognise the importance of supporting children and families and creating opportunities for boys to grow in faith, character, confidence and purpose.

We hope this eBook encourages parents, churches and leaders to think intentionally about the influences surrounding the boys in their lives.

Most importantly, we hope it starts conversations.

What Kind of Man Will Your Boy Become?

We may not be able to predict every step of a child’s future.

But we can help create the foundations they build upon.

    We can encourage them.

We can model faith and character.

We can surround them with positive influences.

We can give them opportunities to grow.

And we can remind them that they are known, valued and capable of becoming the person God created them to be.

  • Boysโ€™ Brigade Queensland Endorses Faith Parent

Boysโ€™ Brigade Queensland Endorses Faith Parent

A Partnership to Support Christian Families and Help the Next Generation Grow in Faith, Character and Confidence

We are pleased to share an important announcement with the Faith Parent community and Boysโ€™ Brigade Queensland families.

Boysโ€™ Brigade Queensland has formally endorsed Faith Parent as a trusted source of faith-based Christian parenting content and resources for its families.

This endorsement marks the beginning of a meaningful partnership between Boysโ€™ Brigade Queensland and Faith Parent, with a shared desire to encourage families, strengthen faith at home and support the next generation of boys as they grow in faith, character and confidence.

An Official Endorsement from Boysโ€™ Brigade Queensland

The Boysโ€™ Brigade Queensland has provided the following official endorsement to its Companies, Leaders, Families and Supporters.

    What This Endorsement Means

This is more than simply sharing another resource with Boysโ€™ Brigade families.

The endorsement represents a level of trust and alignment between two organisations that share a concern for the spiritual development of children and the strength of Christian families.

Boysโ€™ Brigade Queensland has specifically stated that it is satisfied with Faith Parentโ€™s:

    • Theological grounding
    • Tone
    • Standard of care

And importantly, the endorsement recognises Faith Parent as a resource that can genuinely help Boysโ€™ Brigade families.

For Faith Parent, that trust is something we take seriously.

Our goal is not to add another voice competing for parentsโ€™ attention.

Our goal is to provide practical, accessible and faith-centred resources that parents can use in the everyday moments of family life.

    A Shared Vision for Families

Both Faith Parent and Boysโ€™ Brigade Queensland recognise that helping children grow in faith is not limited to what happens at church or at a Boysโ€™ Brigade meeting.

Faith is also shaped at home.

It is shaped through conversations around the dinner table.

    Through prayer.

Through the way parents respond when things go wrong.

Through the values children see lived out.

Through the questions parents are willing to discuss.

And through the people who surround children as they grow.

That is why this partnership matters.

Boysโ€™ Brigade provides opportunities for boys to develop through faith, friendship, leadership, discipline, challenge and community.

Faith Parent provides parents with resources and encouragement to help bring faith into the everyday life of the home.

Together, these create more opportunities for faith to be spoken about naturally, lived out honestly and passed on with confidence.

    Supporting Boys as They Grow

    Growing up is a journey.

Boys are constantly learning about who they are, what they believe, how they treat others and what kind of person they want to become.

The adults and communities around them can have a significant influence on that journey.

    They need positive role models.

    They need encouragement.

    They need healthy challenges.

They need opportunities to develop confidence.

They need to know that they belong.

And they need strong foundations that can help them navigate an increasingly complicated world.

This is one of the reasons we created Becoming Theo specifically as part of this partnership.

    Introducing Becoming Theo

To mark the partnership between Boysโ€™ Brigade Queensland and Faith Parent, we have produced Becoming Theo โ€” a free resource created with the parents of Boysโ€™ Brigade Queensland boys in mind.

The guide explores the journey of helping boys grow in:

    Faith.
    Character.
    Confidence.

It is designed to encourage conversations between parents, boys, leaders and families about the foundations that can help shape the next generation.

And at the heart of the resource is an important question:

What Kind of Man Will Your Boy Become?

That question isn’t about expecting boys to have their future completely figured out.

It is about recognising that the foundations we establish during childhood can influence the people they become.
